FAQ
Frequently Asked Questions
What is the Wholesale Electricity Market (MEM)?
The MEM is the market where electricity, related services, power and other related products are bought and sold at the wholesale level in Mexico. It was created as part of the 2013 energy reform to open up competition in the electricity sector.
Who can participate in the MEM?
Generators, suppliers, marketers, qualified users, carriers and distributors are involved, as well as the independent system operator (CENACE).
What products are marketed at the MEM?
Electrical energy. Power (generation capacity). Clean Energy Certificates (CELs). Related services such as frequency regulation, voltage and power reserve.
What are SUJIO's competitive advantages?
At SUJIO we specialize in providing personalized attention, from the moment of the quote we focus on making a suit tailored to each of our clients. In addition, at SUJIO we can deliver you a turnkey project, where the customer doesn't have to worry about paperwork and any other process. We have the option of delivering 100% clean energy, which helps our customers in their decarbonization plans. We have an online dashboard, with which our customers can monitor their consumption in real time.
What is CENACE and what is its role in the MEM?
The National Energy Control Center (CENACE) is responsible for operating the National Electric System (SEN) and for ensuring the proper functioning of the MEM, ensuring the supply and demand of electricity in real time.
What is a qualified user?
He is an electricity consumer who has the capacity to purchase energy directly or indirectly from the MEM, usually large companies with a consumption exceeding a certain threshold of megawatts per year (1 MW of maximum demand).
How long does it take for SUJIO to connect a Qualified User?
SUJIO can take between 8 and 12 months, depending on whether the information the customer shares with us is delivered in a timely manner. It is not done before 8 months because we have to stick to the times set by the manual in each of the processes.
What are Clean Energy Certificates (CELs)?
They are instruments that guarantee that a portion of the energy consumed comes from renewable sources. MEM participants, such as generators and consumers, must meet a mandatory percentage of CELs.
What are the requirements to be a qualified user?
Qualified users must register with the Energy Regulatory Commission (CRE) and meet the minimum energy consumption established to participate in the MEM (1 MW of maximum demand).
What is a Qualified Service Provider?
It is the entity that purchases electricity in the MEM to resell it to qualified users, operating as intermediary between the market and large consumers.
What are the benefits of participating in the MEM?
Participants can access better prices through competition, diversify their energy sources (including clean energy) and optimize operating costs through the flexibility to choose suppliers.
What role do renewable energies play in the MEM?
Renewable energies, such as solar and wind, play a crucial role in actively participating in energy generation. Clean Energy Certificates encourage participants to increase the use of these sources.
What regulations regulate the MEM?
The MEM is regulated by several laws and regulations, the most important of which are the Electricity Industry Act (LIE), the Energy Transition Act, as well as the provisions issued by the CRE and CENACE.
