Qualified user

Welcome to our blog, where we will tell you about the requirements to become a Qualified User Participating in the Wholesale Electricity Market in Mexico. If you've ever wondered how large companies and industrial users manage to obtain electrical energy efficiently and often more economically, you've come to the right place!
Step 1: Understand the Wholesale Electricity Market
To become a Qualified Market Participant User (“UCPM”), it is crucial to understand the operation of the Wholesale Electricity Market (“MEM”). In simple terms, this market is where electricity and associated products are purchased and sold on a large scale. There are different actors involved, such as: Generators, Suppliers, Non-Supply Marketers and Qualified Market Participants. Your goal will be to join this last group.
Step 2: Meets the Requirements
To be considered a UCPM, you must meet certain requirements established by the Energy Regulatory Commission (CRE) and CENACE. Mainly, if you meet the demand and consumption requirements to participate in the MEM established in the current Market Bases (a minimum demand of 5 MW and an annual consumption of 20 GWh) you can sign a Market Participant contract with CENACE, otherwise, you must contract the supply with a Qualified Service Provider.
Step 3: Manage Your Energy
Once you have obtained the Qualified User category, you will have the opportunity to manage your energy more efficiently. This means being able to choose your energy suppliers, negotiate direct contracts and access more competitive rates. This freedom will allow you to optimize your costs and make a more conscious use of energy.
Step 4: Learn about Contracts and Negotiations
When participating in the MEM, it is essential to understand the different types of energy supply contracts and how to negotiate them. You can opt for long-term contracts to ensure fixed and stable prices, or even explore options to purchase renewable energy to contribute to the environment.
Step 5: Stay Informed
The electricity market is dynamic and is constantly evolving. Stay on top of regulations, changes in rates, and trends in the electrical industry. This will allow you to make informed decisions and adapt to the opportunities that arise. In short, becoming a UCPM involves understanding how it works, meeting established requirements, efficiently managing your energy, learning about contracts and negotiations, and staying informed. By doing so, you will be on your way to maximizing the energy efficiency of your company and contributing to the sustainable development of the country and the
planet.
